01 · The project
On rue du Ruisseau, in the 18th, the building is repaired while people are still living in it. That constraint governs everything else: each operation is prepared, announced, and closed up within the day where possible.
02 · Programme & uses
The survey is massive, hundreds of photographs, taken so that nothing is decided from memory. The underpinning is carried out in passes: a wall is never undercut along its whole length but taken up in sections, and the building never notices.
03 · The site
Then comes the reinforcement of the footings, the moment when drawing becomes steel laid at the bottom of a pit. The operation is subsidised, which adds a demand: to justify every item, and keep a file that speaks both to the contractor and to the funder. Following a site of this kind is to learn that drawing is only part of the work.
