01 · The project
Renovating the envelope of a Haussmannian building in the first arrondissement without betraying its design: external insulation and replacement of the joinery. The problem is not only technical, this is a Parisian façade, and everything added to it reads from the street.
02 · Programme & uses
The work runs from survey to costing, all the way to the tender file. In the photographs, the building vanishes under scaffolding and sheeting: the one moment when a Haussmannian façade stops being looked at, just before it is looked at again.
03 · The site
Sections of the existing and of the project are drawn side by side: that is how one sees what the insulation adds in thickness, what the new joinery changes at the reveal, and where the detail must be reworked so that the façade line stays right.
