Nothing shows01
01 · The atmosphere
Beneath the terrace of a private house, a lap pool takes its place in the basement. Nothing was to show from the garden: the terrace stays a terrace, and it is the light that comes down to find the water rather than the other way round.

The light coming down02
02 · Material & light
A zenithal skylight opens the ceiling to the sky, and the veined marble of the walls is pierced with backlit portholes that give light back where it is missing. A slatted screen tempers the whole: timber warms a room that would otherwise be entirely mineral.

03 · Uses
From the far end of the pool, the room reads from one end to the other: the loungers on dry ground, the low table, and the lap lane running away under the skylight. A basement that does not look like a basement.
