Otaku, bibliothèque de quartier

01 · The atmosphere
The plan of the existing premises still carried the words of a bakery: the sales area, the stockroom. Otaku keeps those walls and changes what one comes there for, a place of culture at low cost, in a neighbourhood that had none.

02 · Material & light
The reading corner lets you leaf through the beginning of a book before buying it, and borrowing stays open to those who cannot afford to: library and bookshop hold in the same room without getting in each other’s way. The digital space slips into the section, where the height allows.

03 · Uses
The aesthetic is minimal and warm, japandi in inspiration, and every square metre is optimised for want of being able to add any. The furniture was drawn piece by piece, reading unit, shelving, counter, because a low-budget place holds together through its design rather than its materials.
