L’Industrie, friche Norton
01 · The atmosphere
Where Drancy, La Courneuve and Le Bourget meet, the wasteland of the former Norton/Saint-Gobain buildings has stood empty since industrial activity ceased in 2005. The place kept a strategic position and a history; what it lacked was a use. The project turns it into a third place, the kind where exchange happens.
02 · Material & light
The approach fuses industrial heritage and modernity: an aesthetic drawn from Art Deco and manufacturing architecture, steel and brick, arched joinery. The existing grid is respected, columns every eight metres across, ten along, and the metal trusses, left exposed, anchor the project in what it used to be.
03 · Uses
A planted wall tempers the whole and brings a breath into the heart of the building, while each floor floats like the steps of a staircase. Shared workspaces, a FabLab, a cafeteria: the project goes beyond renovation and offers a model for adapting industrial heritage to today’s uses.
