Villa contemporaine, Dakar
01 · The project
A two-storey house on a 725-square-metre plot, in Dakar. The rules set a clear limit, the ridge shall not exceed nine metres, and it is within that height that the whole project is played out.
02 · Programme & uses
The plan is organised around a patio open all the way to the roof: it brings light into the heart of the house and ventilates it without asking the façades to be pierced. The pool sits at the foot of the volumes, and the upper floor answers it with a terrace.
03 · The site
From the upper floor, the patio can be read at a glance: the double height, the light falling in, the circulation running round it. All of this is then written in sheets, floor plans, structural plan, sections, elevations on all four orientations. Each answers a question from the authorities, and, put end to end, they describe the house better than any text.
