01 · The atmosphere
Thirty-four and a half square metres, on the third floor of a new building in Poissy. New, and yet badly laid out: a hall that serves no purpose, two doors that clash as they open, a column planted in the middle of the living room and three service ducts constraining the rest.
02 · Material & light
Two scenarios are drawn, from the minimal refit to the complete one, so the choice stays open according to budget. In the first, sliding doors are enough to give back the square metres the swing doors were taking; in the second, the hall disappears and the bedroom closes behind a glazed partition.
03 · Uses
The living room finally opens onto the kitchen, and the column, which cannot be moved, stops being a nuisance and becomes a useful edge between two uses. A small flat is not fixed by pushing walls: it is fixed by accepting what will not move.
